Sonora plumbers describe the signs of a defective pressure reducing valve

While Sonora plumbers from Optimized plumbing & Piping are on service calls we notice that many times homeowners do not check the pressure in their homes water pipes for long periods. Eventually pressure reducing valves wear out and damage starts to faucets, toilets, dishwashers, washing machines, and even the water supply on your refrigerator. Our Sonora plumbers see this many times in our service area because so many homes use PRV valves (pressure reducing valves) to reduce the high water pressure in the water system. Below are some signs that your PRV could be going bad.

1) Noticeable drop in water pressure

While this is very inconvenient it’s not damaging to your plumbing fixtures like the next step which is high water pressure.

2) Noticeable rise in water pressure

Sonora plumbers say that water pressure in many parts of Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties can top 120psi. This can be very damaging to plumbing fixtures and appliances in your home. Including water heaters, and tankless water heaters. This higher water pressure isn’t always noticeable because the pressure can stay where it is set when the water is being used. But when no water is used for a few minutes in the home the pressure steadily climbs, due to small leaks in the pressure reducing valve. This is not as noticeable as a constant high pressure. Many times when you turn on a faucet the excess pressure dissipates very quickly, but the damage happens when the fixtures are not being used, and the high pressure is kept in your water pipes for longer periods.

These problems can easily be solved by calling your Sonora plumbers at Optimized Plumbing & Piping at 209-352-4294. We provide plumbing service for the areas of Sonora, Angels Camp, Copperopolis, Groveland, Twain Harte, Murphys, San Andreas, Jackson, Oakdale, Riverbank, and Modesto.

Why installing a toilet, sink, faucet, or water heater is best left to a professional.

Installing good quality plumbing fixtures can make your home a healthy comfortable place, but doing the job correctly is important. Unfortunately homeowners waste thousands of dollars a year on damaged plumbing material, by attempting to do plumbing installations, or repairs they don’t know how to do. If you need a water heater, toilet, faucet, or sink installed in your home be safe and hire a professional  Sonora  plumber. Here’s why:

1) Prevent damage from leaks

Even though damaging a new plumbing fixture you just payed for seems bad enough the main reason to hire a professional is to protect your home from the damage a leak could cause due to improper installation. Improperly installed toilets, sinks, faucets, or water heaters can have leaks that cause wood rot, mold growth, and warping of wood. The damage can easily exceed the cost of paying for a professional plumbing installation.

2) Protect your investment

If you are upgrading your homes bathroom or kitchen you probably already know what a huge impact updated plumbing fixtures can make. If you’re going to shell out several hundred dollars for plumbing fixtures for your dream kitchen, or bathroom, go the extra mile and make sure the fixtures are installed correctly, by hiring a professional plumber.

3) Convenience

Installing plumbing fixtures can be stressful for someone un experienced as well as difficult, and physically demanding. Make life easier for yourself by hiring a Sonora plumber for the installation. Not only can you have the peace of mind of a high quality installation, but you won’t even break a sweat! You can count on Optimized Plumbing and Piping to serve all your plumbing needs.

Water Heater Repair & Maintenance Tips #2

Today’s post is our second tip for water heater repair and maintenance. If you missed the first tip, take a look at our post from yesterday.

Remember — the Sonora plumbers at Optimized Plumbing & Piping can service your plumbing or  water heater needs for you, OR you can follow these tips yourself.

Please note: These tips are unnecessary for tankless water heaters.

Water Heater Maintenance Tips – Tip #2

  • The next thing that a Sonora plumber would do is an anode rod inspection. The anode rod in your water heater is a sacrificial metal that is eaten away instead of your water heater tank. They should be inspected and probably replaced within 6 years of installation. Every storage tank water heater has at least one anode rod, but finding it can be difficult because they are seldom in the same spot.
  • Once you find the anode rod and remove it, you should inspect it. The length should be enough to nearly reach the bottom of the water heater. If it crumbles or has parts of it eaten away, it’s time for a new one.
  • If the anode is down to bare wire, there is probably damage to the inside of your water heater, and you may want to invest in a water heater installation instead of a repair.
  • Another thing to consider when scheduling maintenance is whether or not you have a water softener.  Softening is done by exchanging salt for calcium carbonate. The salt is more corrosive to the anode rod and doubles or triples it’s consumption.  Frequent anode inspection is crucial for softened water. Inspection periods should be every 1-2 years.

The maintenance tips described the last 2 days can make a huge difference in doubling the life span of your water heater.

For water heater repair and maintenance or water heaters, tankless water heaters and high efficiency water heaters installation, call Sonora’s expert plumbers at Optimized Plumbing & Piping  — 209-352-4294.

Our Sonora plumbers service the following locations in Tuolumne County and Calaveras County :

Water Heaters: How to choose a Sonora plumber

This water heater connection was done by untrained and unnamed Sonora plumber ( you get what you pay for)
This water heater connection was done by untrained and unnamed Sonora plumber hired by a local licensed contractor ( you get what you pay for) The same water heater was installed on a  rotted out frame hanging 3′ above the basement floor (barely)

There are a lot of people who will gladly take your money to replace a  water heater in your home, but not all of these people are qualified to do the work. Unfortunately some homeowners try to save a little money by hiring an unlicensed contractor who has very little skill or training. On the other hand some Sonora, CA plumbing contractors hire unskilled or untrained labor to offer low prices to consumers. This seems like a good deal until you think about the dangers of these people installing your water heater. Installing an electric hot water heater includes dealing with 240 volts, while installing a gas water heater includes the danger of gas leaks as well as carbon monoxide from the flue pipe. Even carbon monoxide which many people don’t think of when they think water heater is a concern because carbon monoxide kills 400 people a year in the United States, and sends another 20,000 to the emergency room.

The best thing to do is look for a licensed plumbing contractor who hires qualified help and will install things correctly, make sure all of the safety features are in place, and that everythings installed to plumbing code. Price shopping for appliances is a good idea but this happens to be a different story. The difference between a $1,200 installation that is done correctly, and a $900 installation done incorrectly is $300 but over the life of the appliance you are only paying $2.08 per month for the quality installation. This is a small price to pay to know that your hot water heater will not be a danger to you or your family.

Another benefit of hiring a quality Sonora, Ca plumber is the knowledge they bring to the table about all options of water heating including tankless water heaters, instant water heaters, high efficiency water heaters, electric water heaters including heat pump water heaters, and solar water heaters.

Call Sonora plumbing service contractor Optimized Plumbing & Piping  today for your quality water heater installation at (209)352-4294

Our Sonora plumbers offer  service for Tuolumne County, and Calaveras County, and offer services including water heater installation, tankless water heater installation, leak repair, faucet installation, toilet installation, sink installation, re piping, and plumbing for remodels, as well as hydronic boiler installation, radiant water heating, and radiant heating.
